Workforce Development
To help achieve our mission, MHOA offers a variety of workforce development programs for local public health departments and boards of health. We also partner with other associations, state and local agencies, and training centers to provide additional training opportunities on the latest public health topics.
MHOA members always receive a discount on all registration fees!

Annual Conference
A 3 day event for MA public health professionals to hear about the latest public health topics, learn new skills, and network with other local public health colleagues. Speakers from national, state and local agencies are invited each year.
Quarterly Meetings
Two hour interactive sessions on popular public health topics and opportunities for networking.

Program Description:
What is body art and how has the industry changed over the years?
Paul Shoemaker from the Boston Public Health Commission will present on body art and how the industry has changed over the years. Learn how to inspect and regulate body art establishments and discuss the shared “pain points” with regulations. Paul will co-present with a body artist so we can hear from their perspective and see the equipment used in their practice.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this training program, participants will be able to:
- Describe what is body art and new industry practices like microblading
- Explain the inspection process for a body art establishment
- Discuss body art regulations in MA and their associated challenges

An annual event to provide the latest MassDEP updates and training on relevant and timely topics.
MHOA/MDPH Community Sanitation Spring Seminar Series
An annual day long event offered 4 times in 4 different locations throughout MA to provide the latest CSP updates and training on relevant and timely topics.
MHOA Summer Webinar Series: Lunch and Learn
One hour learning sessions that are free for MHOA members. A $25 registration fee for non-members.
All webinars are from 1pm to 2pm unless noted otherwise.
