2026 RS/CHO MHOA Credentialing & Naparstek Scholarship Applications Reminder

RS/CHO Credentialing Scholarship

The Massachusetts Health Officers Association (MHOA) has scholarships available to assist members with obtaining Registered Sanitarian and Certified Health Officer credentials. The goal is to reach members that would not otherwise have funding for a study course or exam fees. 

Eligibility Requirements:

Scholarship applicants must be current (2026) MHOA members, eligible to apply for the credential they are seeking scholarship assistance to obtain, and have no available funding from their municipality, shared services arrangement, or training hub.

What the scholarship covers:

REHS exam study course (reimbursement with course pre-approval, or MHOA directly paying for courses it arranges a group rate for)

REHS track A or B application fee, examination fee, Pearson VUE fee (reimbursement up to $605)

Certified in Public Health exam fee (reimbursement up to $250, must choose Massachusetts discount)

Not covered:

Study courses or exam fees paid prior to date on scholarship award letter

Study courses or exam fees paid by anyone other than the scholarship recipient

REHS Track C exam fees (Must wait until eligible for track A or B: https://www.neha.org/rehs-eligibility-apply)

RS or CHO credentialing fees paid to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health

Amy Naparstek Memorial Scholarship:

This memorial scholarship award was established in 1996 in honor of Amy Naparstek, daughter of MHOA Past-President J. David Naparstek. Applicants must be a member of MHOA and actively participating.  

If you have received this scholarship within the last 3 years you are not eligible to apply. 

We anticipate $10,000 in total will be awarded to multiple recipients at the discretion of the scholarship committee and Board of Directors. 

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled in a public, environmental or allied health degree or certificate program at a recognized educational institution. Preference is given to applicants currently employed in local public health.  PLEASE NOTE THAT A B.S. IN GENERAL STUDIES OR B.A. IN BIOLOGY DOES NOT MEET THIS CRITERIA. 

Application form and supporting documents must be received by February 25th at 5 pm and the scholarship(s) will be awarded in May for the next school year.  Awardees will be invited to attend the May 28th MHOA meeting in Plymouth.
