Annual Meeting & Elections Reminder
Each year during the Conference, MHOA holds its Annual Business Meeting to update its members on the work MHOA is doing, and to elect its Board of Directors. For 2025, we will be meeting on Wednesday, November 5th at 5:15 PM at the Springfield Marriott. Think of this as a Shareholders’ Meeting, and all MHOA Members are the Shareholders.
This year, members will be electing a new slate of Officers as President Timothy Muir McDonald cycles into the Immediate Past President Role, all Regional Representative Positions are up for election, and we will be filling 2 vacant At-Large Representative Positions (for 1 year terms). MHOA’s Nominations Committee will be presenting a slate of nominations for the Officers and At-Large positions, but the Regional Representatives will be selected via regional caucus.
You may be asking “How does the Caucus work?” As you enter the meeting, we will be asking you to sit in areas we have designated for each region. When it comes time to elect the Regional Representatives, we will ask members to select a person from your region to serve on the Board of Directors for a 2 year term. At this time, we believe that all Regional Representatives have a desire to continue their service to the Association, but members do not have to return them to the Board. This is a decision made by the voting members present; if you have a desire to serve, let it be known prior to or during the caucus. Once each Region has selected its Representative, we will ask the entire membership present to affirm the slate. Note that there will be an opening in Region 4AB for a new Regional Representative, as Shin Yi Lao will be nominated as our Treasurer (Region 4AB has two representatives due to its size).
In a typical year, we would be electing either the Regional or At-Large Representatives, but not both at the same time. This year, we need to fill an At-Large seat vacated when Joanne Belanger retired this year (the Board of Directors chose to leave the seat empty until this election), as well as a newly created At-Large seat when the Bylaws were amended earlier this year. While the Nominating Committee will nominate two persons, nominations from the floor will be allowed. If more than two names are nominated, then a ballot election will occur.
We hope to see you at the Annual Meeting; this is YOUR organization
