MHOA Fall 2025 Tier 2 Food Announcement

A message from the Massachusetts Local Public Health Training Program:

Dear Local Public Health Professionals,

This fall, Boston University will offer one Tier 2 Housing training and one Tier 2 Food training. Due to a lengthy waitlist, there will NOT be a separate application process for these offerings. Instead, we will be converting to a rolling waitlist format. To join the waitlist, or to check your placement on the waitlist, please email lphtrain@bu.edu.

For those on the waitlist, we encourage you to complete your Tier 1 coursework to increase your chances of being selected for this offering.

The Tier 2 Food course will be held virtually on September 15th, 16th, and 17th from 8:30 AM–12:30 PM, and in-person in Randolph on September 30th and October 1st from 8:00 AM–3:30 PM. The Tier 2 Housing course will be held this November, with the in-person component in Springfield. Further details will be shared soon with those on the waitlist.

The Massachusetts Local Public Health Training Program supports the LPH workforce with training and development opportunities to meet the training requirements in the workforce standards. Our training programs embed diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility as core principles.

Hybrid learning is an instructional method that utilizes both virtual instruction and face-to-face classroom instruction. Our approach to hybrid classroom instruction is engaging the learner through a series of stages called “Tiers.” Each program’s tiers are intended to be completed sequentially and build upon each other throughout the course of the training program.

To meet the workforce standards, you must complete the tiers in sequential order. This means all Tier 1 coursework must be successfully completed before you can be enrolled for any Tier 2 courses. If you have not already done so, start by creating a TRAIN MA account.

The program is a collaborative partnership between the Office of Local and Regional Health, academic institutions, local public health professional organizations, the Local Public Health Training Hub Program, and other state agencies.

Thank you to all our MA local public health professionals for your commitment to this program and for your continued patience as we work to support and train the workforce.
